Air Travel Disruption after the 2010 Eyjafjallajökull Eruption
The second eruption of Eyjafjallajökull volcano in Iceland on 14 April 2010 caused extensive air travel disruption across large parts of Europe. In response to fears that particles ejected by the volcano into standard flight corridors could damage aircraft engines, the airspace of many countries was closed, stranding millions of travellers. It was the largest air traffic shut-down since World War II.

Avian Influenza Update
Avian influenza (“bird flu”) is an infectious disease of birds caused by type A strains of the influenza virus. The infection can cause a wide spectrum of symptoms in birds, ranging from mild illness, which may pass unnoticed, to a rapidly fatal disease that can cause severe epidemics.
